Smash Bros. 4 Has Cuccos, and I Can’t Wait to Beat Them Up

As a child, I was obsessed with a great many things. One of those things was beating on Cuccos in A Link to the Past. I spent hours attacking chickens, getting killed, and restarting so I could beat them up all over again. To this day, when I see a chicken in a video game, I hope the two of us will be allowed to engage in mortal combat.

Needless to say, when I realized that Cuccos would be appearing in Smash Bros. 4, I was pretty thrilled about it. Since the Cuccos will be an item, you’ll be free to hurl them at your opponents. But while taking a chicken to the face is all well and good, that’s not the thing that has me excited.

See, Masahiro Sakurai has revealed that players will also be able to attack Cuccos, just like in Link to the Past. He hasn’t said what the consequences for beating on Cuccos will be, but I’m betting they’ll be pretty dire.

This might be the number one reason to pick up the Wii U version of Smash Bros. You can attack Cuccos on the 3DS too, but they’ll be an actual enemy, which takes some of the fun out of it. If I’m going to clobber chickens, I don’t want them to know it’s coming.

Smash Bros. for Wii U still doesn’t have a release date, which means I’ll have to wait a while to live out my chicken-fighting fantasies. Still, this and Mario Kart 8 have me completely sold on the console. A new system is a small price to pay for the joy of being attacked by chickens.
