Streaming Sunday Time Dumps: Patriot

Sunday Time Dumps

Typically, this is the point where I would extol the virtues of some awesomely ridiculous or ridiculously awesome movie or TV show I stumbled upon while surfing Netflix. Last week, for example, I hopped aboard the Undead Express to explore the Korean zombie film Train to Busan.

But, as we all know, the streaming world is so much larger than just Netflix. In keeping with the demands of my appetite for the buffet of media on offer, I must grow beyond the confines of Netflix alone. So without further ado, I present this Netflix Streaming Sunday Time Dump.

This week’s entrée comes straight from Amazon Prime Video. It’s a little show called Patriot.

Patriot

Patriot is by and large the most engaging original show I’ve seen in a very long time. It’s a sleepy, dreamy glimpse at the life of a CIA operative in a bit of an emotional slump. He gets sent to deliver some seed money to fund a revolution in Iran that is favorable to the interests of the US.

If that sounds boring or too political, well…

The main character, John Tavner, is in exile in the Netherlands due to a mission objective gone wrong.

Patriot Season 1

He is riddled with guilt and malaise and writes incredibly on-the-nose folks songs that accurately detail his nefarious spy games. His wife is worried sick. His brother is a government man with an unusual affiliation with a mixed-race young boy that might be mixed race for a reason all too obvious. The other member of his old folk duo is desperately trying to track him down and sell a kayak.

It’s impossible to go into too much detail without spoiling the fun; you just have to take the plunge and see this thing for yourself. Check out the trailer below.
