20th Century Fox has released a new short video titled “Prologue: Last Supper” in promotion of the upcoming Alien: Covenant, which is set to chestburst into theaters on May 19th, 2017.
In “Last Supper” we get to see the characters that inhabit the Covenant, a ship on a mission to colonize the shit out of space. James Franco is wrapped in a blanky, Billy Crudup is looking especially late-period Billy Crudup-like, and Michael Fassbender is par for the course — by which I mean as creepy as usual.
You won’t see a Xenomorph in this clip, or really much else aside from a bunch of space folks getting slightly turnt. And aside from the peculiar bit with the woman choking for no apparent reason, there is no real hint at the dread to come (although it’s pretty safe to assume that every one of these people will end up “dead, all dead”).
Still, this has me feeling pretty good about the upcoming Alien: Covenant, as the roster seems pretty solid and there is a nice cross section of ethnicity and sexuality, a fixture in today’s socially conscious Hollywood. I also like seeing a direct link to Prometheus, which itself was a flawed-yet-entertaining movie.
We’ll just have to wait and see how things shape up, but right now I’m looking forward to being scared shitless come May 19th, 2017
