Nioh isn’t exactly a Souls-like, but it does have some incredible boss fights. Nioh‘s second boss, Onryoki, is especially interesting. The boss’s name comes from the term “onryou,” which means “vengeful spirit,” and “ki,” a way to read the Japanese kanji for demon. Although the game doesn’t delve deeply into the lore behind Onryoki, there are some interesting clues about the game’s past.
If you’d like to see more of Onryoki — and learn more about Japanese folklore — you can watch me draw this boss battle. This drawing is based around the first stage of the fight, in which the boss uses large iron balls as a deadly weapon.
