The first official trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi was revealed at Star Wars Celebration 2017 on Friday, April 14, and it has the whole Star Wars-loving world talking. But there was another reveal at the event that maybe doesn’t match the awesomeness of the trailer, but it’s certainly awesome in its own way.
This is the movie poster that was unveiled at the event:
Now, this design is classic Star Wars. The raised lightsaber is certainly a callback to the movie poster from 1977’s A New Hope.
But the red color raises some questions, especially when Luke Skywalker’s gigantic face is drenched in it. Is this just a design choice, to keep a minimalist color scheme, or is this to suggest that Luke is being seduced by the Dark Side? Red, after all, has always been the color associated with Sith lightsabers.
And it was none other than Darth Vader’s head that was supersized on the poster for A New Hope, further suggesting something sinister may be at play here.
Either way, this poster is great, and I can’t wait to see it line the halls of movie theaters around the country come December.
