The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a breathtakingly gigantic video game. But, over the next seven months or so, it’s going to get even bigger.
There are two DLC packs announced so far, and details about what’s in the first pack have been officially announced.
And it’s a ton of stuff.
The real meat of this pack is a new challenge called Trial of the Sword. This is a wave-based combat mode that starts you off with no weapons or armor and has you fight your way through a series of rooms — when you defeat all the enemies in a room, you move onto the next one. There are supposedly about 45 rooms in total, so this might take a pretty hefty chunk of time to get through. If you do, however, you’ll unlock a new power for the Master Sword, which allows you to keep it in it’s glowy, powered-up form.
Next up is a new map feature called Hero’s Path. This basically draws a path on your map that shows where you’ve traveled for the past 200 hours of gameplay. With this much data to look at, it will no longer be difficult to tell where you’ve explored and which corners of the world you’ve missed.
Have you fully upgraded your health/stamina and are now finding the game too easy? Well, Hard Mode is coming, which makes the enemies tougher and gives them regenerating health. Even better than this, though, is that this mode adds treasure and enemies to the skies of Hyrule.
The Travel Medallion is a one-time-use item that adds a fast-travel marker to your map, which is pretty cool if your favorite area in the game is hard to reach and lacks nearby shrines.
Are you a fan of armor? We love collecting the stuff, and this DLC gives us more of that. There are nine new armor pieces included, though you’ll have to find the locations of the appropriate chests to acquire them. It’s definitely going to give players incentive to do some more exploring.
If you still haven’t found every Korok seed (and who has? There are 900 of these things), the Korok Mask will assist you. This item — one of the nine pieces of armor mentioned above — will shake whenever you’re near a Korok seed.
The other eight armor pieces are shown below.
If you’ve ever wanted to dress up like Tingle — and really, who hasn’t? — then all your wildest dreams are about to come true.
This Breath of the Wild DLC pack is the first piece of content included in the Season Pass, and it’s due out this summer.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to have an excuse to go back to Breath of the Wild. I freaking love this game.
