Final Fantasy XV: Episode Prompto Is a Much Beefier Expansion Than Episode Gladiolus

Final Fantasy XV: Episode Prompto

Final Fantasy XV‘s Episode Gladiolus was disappointing to some. Unlike the first half of the main game, the first expansion was basically a stroll through a hallway. While that hallway was beautiful and filled with exciting fights against strange beasts, it was a hallway nonetheless.

Episode Prompto might begin with tight battles in narrow hallways that bring to mind Metal Gear Solid, but it eventually opens up and lets you explore an icy winter landscape at your own pace. while the game map is teeny when compared to the main game’s open world, it’s much wider than anything we saw in Episode Gladiolus, and it has plenty of stuff to find hiding away in its nooks and crannies.

There are even side quests this time around. From time to time, you’ll see an exclamation mark surrounded by a gold box appear on your minimap, and if you find its source, you’ll activate a side quest.

The rewards for completing these quests come in the form of a currency called CPU, which lets you upgrade your snowmobile. Yes, you’ll spend quite a bit of time with a snowmobile in this expansion.

You’ll also spend a lot of time with a familiar friend, though I won’t say who it is as to not spoil anything. (And, of course, it comes with another set of Trophies or Achievements to earn.)

Final Fantasy XV Episode Prompto might not be the meaty expansion that fans were hoping for, but it’s definitely beefier than Episode Gladiolus — even though Gladiolus is the beefier character by a long shot…
