How to Get the Gold Relic on N. Sanity Beach in Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

Crash Bandicoot N. Sanity Beach

Getting the Gold Relics in the original Crash Bandicoot — the first game in the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy — is no easy task, but it’s worth a few Trophies (one for 5, one for 10, and one for 26). And the Gold Relic on N. Sanity Beach is especially difficult. The requirement is to get through this level in about 28 seconds.

(As a side note, don’t let this map dissuade you from attempting the other time trials. Many of them are quite a bit more forgiving than this one.)

There are four major things that you must do in order to clear the Gold Relic time on N. Sanity Beach.

Break every numbered box.

Crash Bandicoot Time Boxes

There are several numbered boxes scattered across this level, and you must break every one. These are time boxes: the number on the box is how many seconds of time you’ll gain for breaking it. Even if you have to slow down to hit one, the time gained is always more than the time lost by waiting — if you are a skilled player. This will become especially important once we get to our final point.

Bounce on a particular time box and spin your way to the next step.

Crash Bandicoot Time Boxes

When you reach the temple, which you’ll recognize by its stepped appearance, there is a time box on the step pictured above. You must hop on it, bounce, then perform a quick spin move to get onto the step above it. If this description is confusing, you can see it in action in our video at the bottom of this article.

Also keep in mind that there’s a hidden time box — below and to the right of this one — which you’ll need to bust. It’s surrounded by plain-looking boxes, but you’ll see its yellow top if you look closely.

If you spin attack the crab before the temple, and your timing is perfect, you should break this box without having to actually bust it manually. You can sort of see what we mean in our video at the bottom of this article, though we didn’t quite nail it on that attempt.

Collect all three Aku Aku Masks.

Crash Bandicoot Aku Aku Mask

There are three Aku Aku Masks on N. Sanity Beach, and you’ll need to collect all three of them, which will make you invincible for a short time and will make the final point possible. The first one is in the location pictured above. The second one is pictured below.

If you spin attack the crab at the right time, this is another box you won’t have to attack manually.

And the third one is here:

If you collect all three, you’ll be able to pull off the final maneuver, which will make or break this run.

Wait for the bridge.

When you come to a fork in the road, you’ll need to take the right-hand path. If you followed our advice in the previous point, you should have the Aku Aku invincibility effect active at this point. There’s a steel exclamation box, which you’ll need to activate in order to create a crate bridge across the gap. You’ll want to wait for it to be about halfway finished before you cross it, because the second-to-last box is a time box that you cannot miss if you hope to hit the Gold Relic time. With the Aku Aku effect active, you can just run quickly across the bridge to break all the boxes. Just don’t linger too long on any box or you’ll fall through.
