World of Light is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s version of a single-player campaign. It has a cute board game aesthetic, and it provides dozens of hours of fun for those who are into such things. It also offers a chance to get some loot.
You’ll find goodies hidden in chests scattered across the map, but not all chests are created equal. Here’s a guide to every single chest in World of Light’s Light Realm, including the dungeons.
Overworld
I’m using the term Overworld to describe the main map in the Light Realm. This is the map you start out on. There are 38 chests to open on the Overworld map.
500 Spirit Points (SP)
This chest is in the center of the village square. It’s just to the right of Timmy and Tommy’s shop, which you can see near the left edge of the image above.
10 Skill Spheres
This chest is on a small peninsula due north of the starting area, just south of the tongue-shaped gate in the main wall (shown above).
Music – “Forest Stage” (Kirby Air Ride)
This chest is very close to the previous one. In fact, you can see the previous chest in the left edge of the image above. It’s over on the right-hand side of the tongue-shaped gate.
10 Skill Spheres
This chest shown above is on some rocks in the river just north of the main wall. If you follow the first ribbon road after you pass through the wall, this should be on the right-hand side.
Gyarados Support Spirit (Ace)
The above chest is just north of the previous one, on a path that runs alongside the east edge of the river. You’ll have to blow up the rock first, which can be done once you obtain any Spirit that can blow up rocks. Poppy Bros. Jr. works, and so does Bomberman.
Mii Headgear – Floral Hat
The chest shown above is just north of the segments of rainbow road, which connects those little mounds that look a bit like pastries of some sort.
500 Spirit Points (SP)
The above chest is just north of the Eiffel Tower structure in the circular city area just north of the main wall. This is to the southwest of the pastry-looking mounds where the previous chest was.
Mii Headgear – Luigi’s Cap
The chest shown above is hidden in a back alley in the southeast corner of the section of city that’s just to the west of where you start out. It’s just above the red button that opens the city gates.
20 Skill Spheres
The above chest is in another back alley. It’s just west of the previous one, and a little south of Doc Louis’ Gym.
500 Spirit Points (SP)
The chest shown above is way down at the bottom of the map, just south of Anna’s Emporium.
10 Skill Spheres
The chest shown above is next to the northern entry to the racetrack.
Mii Headgear – Chomp Hat
The chest shown above is just south of the heart-shaped pool.
Music – “Main Theme – Yoshi’s Woolly World” (Yoshi’s Woolly World)
The chest shown above is just north of the heart-shaped pool.
3,000 Spirit Points (SP)
If you travel westward from the heart-shaped pool, you’ll come to a snowy, mountainous area. That’s where you’ll find the chest above.
Music – “Break: Through the Ice” (Star Fox: Assault)
The chest shown above is north of the previous one, on the top of a mountain near the ice flow to the north of the Temple of Light dungeon. You’ll have to blow up a rock to reach it.
3 Snacks (M)
To the south of the snowy region, you’ll find an area shrouded in a purple fog. The chest above is near this region’s northwest exit (it has an A button prompt icon over it in the image above).
10 Skill Spheres
A little to the left of the previous chest, you’ll find the chest shown above (like the last one, this one is shown with an A button icon hovering over it).
Nihilego Support Spirit (Advanced)
Yet another chest in the purple fog. This is south of the first chest we showed from this area (and yes, it has an A button icon over it in the image above).
5,000 Spirit Points (SP)
On the northwestern edge of the purple fog, there’s yet another chest. This one is just to the right of that small town area where you find the bus.
Mii Headgear – Dixie Kong’s Hat
And still more purple fog chests. This one is southwest of Toadette’s ruins.
1,000 Spirit Points (SP)
One last purple fog chest. This one is just north of the Power Plant Zone dungeon.
3 Snacks (M)
To the west of the purple fog, in the village I mentioned earlier (the one with the bus), you’ll find the chest shown above.
10 Skill Spheres
The chest shown above is smack in the middle of the mushroom field.
500 Spirit Points (SP)
The above chest is near the steppe plateau, north of the mushroom field.
Music – “Jungle Level Tribal Style (for 3DS / Wii U)” (Donkey Kong Country)
A little west of the plateau is another chest. This one requires you to jump down from the trail above.
Ray Mk II Primary Spirit (Advanced)
The above chest is next to the entrance to the Metal Gear Base.
Wrinkly Kong Support Spirit (Advanced)
A fair distance to the northwest of the Metal Gear Base, and immediately to the north of Beetle’s Tent, you’ll find the above chest. It’s near a pond on top a ledge near the jungle path. Just walk up the steps to reach this area.
Sheriff Support Spirit (Legend)
If you continue following the jungle path northward, you’ll eventually come to a broken bridge. If you fix it, you can cross over into an area that looks like a little mining village. Here, you’ll have to blow up a rock to access the above chest.
3 Snacks (M)
The above chest is pretty easy to find. It’s in space.
Music – “StreetSmash” (Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U)
You’ll find the above chest in the Pac-Man maze.
Music – “Undertow” (Splatoon 2)
The chest shown above can be found in the seaside village just south of the Pac-Man maze.
20 Skill Sphere
The chest shown above is on a very small island to the north of the Green Hill Zone dungeon.
5,000 Spirit Points (SP)
The above chest is to the northeast of the Pac-Man maze. It’s right next to Riki’s Dojo.
2 Snacks (L)
The chest shown above is way on the right-hand edge of the map, in the volcanic area where you acquire Zero Suit Samus.
20 Skill Spheres
The above chest is a bit the the west of the previous chest, at the base of the volcano. If you follow the train tracks through the tunnel and then to the very end, you’ll wind up here.
20 Skill Spheres
A little bit the the west of the previous chest, you’ll find the one shown above at the top of a temple-looking mound of dirt.
5,000 Spirit Points (SP)
The above chest is to the west of the train tracks, next to Kat & Ana’s Dojo. You’ll need to fix the bridge before you can reach it.
3 Snacks (M)
The above chest is in the cloud area near the Gourmet Race dungeon. It’s right next to the pirate ship.
World Tour Zone
World Tour Zone is the dungeon that has you fly from city to city on a map of the world. There are no chests in this zone.
Bowser’s Castle (or Molten Castle)
Just like in the Mario series, Bowser’s Castle is a dungeon filled with lava and stone. Here, you’ll find a total of two chests.
2 Snacks (L)
You can’t miss the chest shown above. It’s just outside the area where you’ll fight Giga Bowser.
Music – “Melty Monster” (Super Mario Galaxy 2)
The chest shown above is a bit easier to miss. You’ll need to go back for it after you’ve activated all the bridges in the dungeon. It’s actually just a little ways south of the previous chest, but you’ll have to go back to the start and make your way north via the right-hand path rather than the left-hand one.
Power Plant Zone
Power Plant Zone is a Mega-Man-based dungeon that has you solving various puzzles using electricity. There are two chests in this dungeon.
Auto Support Spirit (Advanced)
The above chest isn’t difficult to spot, but it does take some clever zapfish manipulation to get to it. This chest is near the northwest corner of the dungeon.
20 Skill Spheres
You really can’t miss the chest shown above. You’ll surely pass right by it on your way toward the right-hand side of the dungeon.
Metal Gear Base
The Metal Gear Base features several computer terminals that must be deactivated in order to disable laser beam walls that block your paths. There are three chests in this dungeon.
20 Skill Spheres
The above chest is in the same room as the #3 computer terminal, above where you obtain the Dr. Wiley Spirit.
Cardboard Box Spirit (Novice)
The above chest can only be accessed once you’ve deactivated computer terminal #5. It’s in the same room where you’ll find both Snake and the Metal Gear REX Spirit.
Snack (L)
You can’t miss the above chest, since it’s on the way to the boss room.
Temple of Light
This dungeon is located in the upper left-hand section of the overworld. You’ll need to activate three switches to enter. There are two chests in this dungeon.
Music – “Kid Icarus Retro Medley” (Kid Icarus)
The chest shown above is up and to the left of the main entrance to the Temple of Light. You can’t miss it.
Mimicutie Support Spirit (Novice)
The above chest is in the second section of the Temple of Light, right before where you acquire Pit. Even though it looks like you might be able to access this chest from below using the path of floating stones, you must actually approach it from above. Oh, and you’ll have to fight the mimicutie that’s inside it, but don’t worry; it’s a very easy battle.
DK Island
This is a great dungeon if you’re a fan of Donkey Kong Country. However, it’s not a great dungeon if you like opening chests, because there are none here.
Forest Hill Zone
This is the dungeon where you fight Rathalos from the Monster Hunter series. There is only one chest here.
Snack (L)
The chest shown above is at the left-hand edge of the dungeon. This area is very small, so you can’t really miss this one.
Gourmet Race
This dungeon has you collecting as much food as possible. It’s good fun, yet there are no chests here.
The Dark Realm
Even if you managed to get all of the chests in the Light Realm, your job isn’t quite done yet. There’s a whole Dark Realm to explore. If you’re ready to collect even more loot, check out the Lightgun Galaxy guide to every chest in the Dark Realm.
