Did Cripps Tease the Photography Role in Red Dead Redemption 2?

Red Dead Redemption 2 Cripps

If you’ve monkeyed around with the Trader role in Red Dead Redemption 2‘s online mode, then you’re undoubtedly familiar with Cripps. Cripps is the old man who basically runs your camp, and he’s always working to make the finest goods out of the animal parts you deliver to him. He’s also perpetually rambling.

I was streaming some Red Dead Online recently, and one of Cripps’ random monologues caught my ear. Here’s what he said:

Okay, you won’t believe this crazy feller I ran into the other day… Begged me to take a photograph of him next to a wolf… said he was trying to impress some lady. Well, the wolf had other ideas!

Here’s a video of the conversation for reference:

This stuck out to me particularly because there have been rumors of a potential photography role coming to Red Dead Online in the future. This role is nothing more than community speculation at this point, but Cripps’ monologue seems like it could be hinting toward that, right? We’ve recently seen something similar in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, with villagers hinting at a potential museum update that includes the beloved barista Brewster.

Of course, I could very well be looking way too deeply into this. After all, it could simply be a reference to the Arcadia for Amateurs series of side missions in Red Dead Redemption 2‘s story mode. Or it could be referring to the “Thrill Seeker” events in Red Dead Online‘s Free Roam mode. I really can’t say for certain.

It is strange, though, that after literally hundreds of hours of Red Dead Online, I’ve only ever heard this conversation one time. I mean, I can recite most of the guy’s dialogue by heart at this point.

While I want to be excited about this, I know better than to get my hopes up. If a photogaphy mode is indeed coming to the game, it might be a long, long way off still. And it might never happen at all.

So make of this what you will.
