DC’s 24-hour virtual FanDome event has been jam-packed with trailers, including a brand-new preview for Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984. This trailer is packed with reveals, which means you might want to hold off on watching if you’re worried about spoilers. Most notably, the trailer provides a showcase for Kristen Wiig’s character: Barbara Ann Minerva, better known as Cheetah.
Created by Len Wein and George Perez in 1987, Barbara is actually the third Cheetah to appear in the pages of Wonder Woman. In the comics, Barbara is an archeologist that gains animalistic powers after volunteering to be a part of an ancient Chuma ritual. 1984 appears to be taking the character in a different direction, but the trailer still shows Cheetah in her full fur-covered glory.
Based on the trailer, it looks like this version of Cheetah will get her powers from another DC comics villain: Max Lord. Lord, who is being played by The Mandalorian‘s Pedro Pascal, runs a company that claims to be able to fulfill anyone’s deepest desires. It’s just a hunch, but we’re guessing there’s going to be some kind of catch.
Wonder Woman 1984 is scheduled to be released October 2, 2020.
