FanDome’s The Batman Movie Trailer Shows Off Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne

The Batman Movie

DC’s FanDome event has bestowed oodles of DC Comics-related news and trailers. It’s more than I was expecting, for sure. Not only are we getting a fresh open-world Batman game, as well as a Suicide Squad game by Rocksteady (the studio behind the Batman Arkham series), but there’s a Batman movie and a Suicide Squad sequel movie due out in 2021 (the Suicide Squad video game is slated for 2022). And don’t forget the new trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 (the film is scheduled for later this year).

Perhaps the biggest trailer of the event is for the upcoming Batman film. The movie is simply titled The Batman, and this time we’re seeing Robert Pattinson (of Twilight fame) don the Dark Knight’s cowl to kick some bad-guy posterior on the streets of Gotham.

The Batman Movie

There was some fan pushback when it was first announced that Pattinson would be the next Batman, but fans are going to cry foul no matter who ends up in the role of Bats. And remember how skeptical people were of Heath Ledger’s Joker before Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight came out? It’s reckless to judge Batman casting decisions before the movie hits the big screen.

And speaking of the Nolan-verse, the trailer for The Batman does have some of that Nolan grittiness to it. The color palette is darker and thematically it feels like an edgier take on the World’s Greatest Detective.

The Batman Movie

The trailer feels pretty stuffed, and it sounds like the movie might be kind of stuffed as well. After all, we’re going to see the Riddler, Catwoman, and Penguin all in one film. Hopefully the film will be able to give all of those characters some breathing room in its runtime.

So far, though, The Batman is looking pretty great, and it’s kind of nice to be excited about Batman once again.
