Breath of the Wild: Where to Get the Flamebreaker Armor Set

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

When you first begin your journey into the wilderness of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you’re given an incredible amount of freedom. However, there are a few areas you might not want to venture before you’re properly suited up. Death Mountain, home to the Goron race, is toasty hot, and getting too close without the proper gear will cause Link to take damage.

You can mitigate the burning effects with a Fireproof Elixer, but a more permanent solution is to acquire the Flamebreaker armor set (which includes the Flamebreaker Helm, the Flamebreaker Armor, and the Flamebreaker Boots). Once you have this cooling armor, exploring red-hot areas will be a breeze, even if they’re completely surrounded by lava flows.

So where can you pick up the Flamebreaker set?

Well, first you must find a man named Kima. He’s hanging out at the Southern Mine, which is on the path to Goron City.

Remember, in order to enter this area, you’ll need to guzzle a Fireproof Elixir to keep you cool.

Kima will offer you a quest called “Fireproof Lizard Roundup,” which has you collecting 10 fireproof lizards. These reptiles are pretty easy to catch if you crouch and sneak up on them, and they’re absolutely everywhere on the path to Death Mountain. You should have 10 in no time.

Breath of the Wild - Kima

Bring 10 fireproof lizards back to Kima, and he’ll give you your first piece of the Flamebreaker set, the Flamebreaker Armor.

The other two pieces can be purchased at a shop called Ripped and Shredded in Goron City. As you enter the village, you should see the shop on your right. It has a giant sign with a T-shirt on it, and there’s a Goron named Pyle who’s perpetually loitering out front, so it’s pretty hard to miss.

The Flamebreaker Boots will run you 700 rupees, and the Flamebreaker Helm is pretty spendy at 2,000, but if you can spare the cash, you’ll be in possession of the full Flamebreaker set. You’ll never have to drink another Fireproof Elixir for as long as you live.

Now, you can completely skip Kima’s quest if you’d like and just buy the Flamebreaker Armor at Ripped and Shredded. It’s actually the cheapest piece at 600 rupees. If you complete Kima’s quest after you’ve already purchased the chestpiece, Kima will still give you a second one. You can hang onto it, or you can sell it back to the shop, but it’s not worth a whole lot. It’s best to just get “Fireproof Lizard Roundup” done before you enter Goron City.
