How to get the Clear Gem in Turtle Woods in Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back

Crash Bandicoot 2 Turtle Woods

If you’re trying to get the Clear Gem in Turtle Woods in Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back — the second game in the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy — there are a couple things you’ll want to be aware of.

Note that this is the guide for getting the Clear Gem in Turtle Woods, not the Blue Gem. If you’re looking for the Blue Gem, we have a guide for that too.

First, you’re going to need to find a secret path — which really isn’t all that secret. Just find the stone slab pictured below.

Then belly flop onto it to open the trapdoor and drop into the secret path. We actually recommend grabbing the Aku Aku Mask that’s just beyond the stone slab before opening the trapdoor. It comes in handy later on, because there are a couple spots that are tricky to get around without taking damage. Like the Nitro Crate section pictured below.

You can actually get through this without exploding any crates if you’re careful. (Jump to the 1:12 mark in the video at the bottom of the article to see us clear this section without taking damage.)

You want to try to jump so that you’re on the south end of the platform, sort of in the middle.

Then carefully hop to the north and to the right to try to get into that safe corner. Then hop up to the Bounce Crate, smash it, and use your slide jump move to clear the gap to the left and get to where the question mark boxes are.

Then hop back down onto the platform where the Bounce Crate was and use your slide jump move to get up to the platform to the right. Slide jump again to get onto the ostrich’s back, and slide jump from there up to the next ledge, where some boxes are waiting to be smashed.

Be careful, though, the ostriches don’t keep their backs propped up for very long. You need to be quick. Repeat again for the second ostrich and get to another platform with more boxes on it, then head back to get the boxes you missed.

And remember, before you leave this secret path, hit the green exclamation box to explode all the Nitro Crates in this stage.

You’ll also want to do the Bonus Round, which is the easiest Bonus Round in all of Crash Bandicoot 2. To get to it, simply locate the slab with a question mark on it and ride it down into the Bonus Round.

There’s one box later in Turtle Woods that’s hiding, and it’s pretty easy to miss. After the first mole pit, you’ll see a spiky turtle.

Wait for it to be as far back as it goes, then jump on it to flip it over. You can then bounce on its belly to reach a box that’s hidden out of sight above the stage.

The rest of the boxes in this stage should be no trouble, but if you want to see our full Clear Gem run in Turtle Woods, check out the video below.
